Important things which are to be considered in SEO(Search Engine Optimization)

SEO analysis uncovers various aspects of optimization that can be used to improve website's SERP on popular search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. SEO analysis were a core part of author's internal activities. Under SEO research study, author was involved in the following sequence of activities:

Website Analysis

Website analysis includes of:

  1. Page title
  2. Meta description
  3. Code to text ratio
  4. Page load speed
  5. Sitemap
  6. Duplicate content
  7. Back link analysis
  8. Follow and no-follow links


Tools such as Site-analyzer, Page Speed Insights, ans Site liner were used.

Competitor Analysis

Study of the market is the study of the rivals in the same niche. Niche is essentially a targated subject . For example, a specific niche can be the Search Engine Optimization. Websites that target the same keyword are both competitors with each other.
Competitors can be SEO competitors (the website competing for the SERP ranking) or company competitors (competitors offering similar services or products).
Competitors can be SEO competitors (website fighting for the top SERP ranking) or business competitors (competitors providing similar services or products).

Keyword Research

Upon completing the SEO research, the author was interested in Keyword Analysis, which is one of the Key Search Engine Optimization activities.Keyword Research involves defining keywords sets which are used to optimize. Using a common tool called Google Adwords Keyword Planner, the author did keyword research from the bucket list of keywords offered.
Keyword research involves a significant amount of time and effort. And, the competition (low, medium or high) and search frequently (average monthly searches) must be focused a lot. Since, the author was involved in a startup project, and initially the market competition for the niche was really strong, the keyword research focused on keywords with low competition with more than average search volume per month.

Content Research

Author conducted research on content based on the keywords to be targeted and optimized. It included identifying relevant content that earned the most social media attention (likes and shares). Buzzsumo has been used particularly for content research to find the most engaging content over the past year or so.

Content Creation and Optimization

A popular saying goes: Content is King. In particular Google's search engine place a lot of value and weightage on content. Not just random content but content that gives value to its readers. Author created few content that includes keywords (researched earlier) at strategic locations like URL, Name Meta Description and Headings. Coscheduled's headline analyser was used to build catchy and better headlines.

Title and Meta Description Optimization

The author optimized the title and Meta Descriptions for each page using a common WordPress plugin called Yoast SEO or Math rank. The title length and Meta description have been held below 70 to 150 characters respectively, as usual.
Site title and definitions of meta description are of strategic importance. These show up in the SERPs. Optimized page title is among Google's several ranking variables. Although Meta descriptions are not a direct ranking factor, well-written Meta description can increase the click dramatically via website quality.

Image Optimization
Author performed image optimization as part of the on-page optimization. Image Optimization included:
  1. Each image file was gives a SEO friendly name.
  2. Each picture has been re-sized before upload.
  3. Worked on customized alternative text.
  4. The photographs were given with concise captions where feasible.
  5. A crucial part of 'Image Optimization' is the alternative text.
  6. As far as possible the descriptive captions should be provided to the images.

Off-page Optimization

The author implemented basic strategics for off-page optimization such as submission of search engines, social bookmarking, submission of folders, email correspondence, posting on blogs and social media. One of the most important ranking variables the variables is the number of linking domains, the number of domains linking to you. There could be a number of links from a given domain to your site, their number is also a ranking factor. Nonetheless, it is still easier to have more connections from different domains than from one domain.

Page Rank Linking

Not every page is equal. Links to pages with higher PageRank will be a larger factor than those on pages with lower PR. So you should try to build ties from high PR pages.

Link Relevancy

Many SEOs assume that links from pages relevant to your search engine topic bear more importance.
Number of do-follow vs no-follow links
The number of no-follow links are not counted by google i.e (link with rel = no follow attribute). Hence the number of links do-follow links only influence the rankings.
