b) Background
CE 1.1 The project entitiled 'An intelligent Lighting System for Exhibition Application' contains narration of the first career episode. I worked in this project for last one year. The fame and popularity as well as the successful execution of this project was emergent for the completion of my Bachelor in Technology in Electronics and Communication from Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The location of the project was the college with appropriates technology and project labs. I worked on the project having group member only two.
CE1.3 The main aim of the project
is to design the smart lightening system. The main property of this system
would be energy efficient and would perform autonomous operation. From some
case studies details, if there large group of lighting used in a building it
was tough to control energy wastage. I prompt to use current smart lighting
technologies available in the market along with their product features and
advantages. I spend lots of my time on researched for implementing the
components in the smart lighting system design projects.
CE1.4 I studied Modular
Intelligent Control System(MICS) for smart lightening system, which is hot
topic especially in Engineering Field, where most of the researcher and
engineer are involving themselves in finding a solution to reduce the energy usage
at the same time increasing their products efficiency. Mainly, it is used in
home appliances, street lamp, industrial automation, aeronautics and
automobiles etc. It uses the controller system which is the integration of
devices to incorporate functions of sensing, actuation and control. This system
is capable of describing and analyzing a situation and takes the decisions
based on predefined conditions and C or assembly language programming was used
for programming.
CE1.5 For the project execution I
performed several different tasks to do this some of them are listed below:
·
Identify all the work items that are part of my
project to generate some idea of the project: to scratch out the concept and
agree the it will be taken in further
·
Planning of the project based on the requirement
analysis of the project.
·
Designing of the appropriate diagram showing the
workflow of the project.
·
Preparing the associated essential documents
like reports of the project.
·
Finally, analyzing the outcomes of the projects
regarding all the previous research works.
c) Personality Engineering Activity
CE1.6 First of all I started my
project by collecting the details from the from the literature review of the
different case study related to my project. I found that smart system are autonomous
and the ones which makes human life more easy. In order to reach to the optimal
result, the system performed in a continuous manner. I visited the university’s
library many times and reading newspapers article for the latest article and
journals. I also scrolled internet to get more details.
CE1.7 One day I went to exhibition
hall and there was some zones in the hall which is the perfect example of smart
lighting. In that hall among the different zones, zone 1 is the lighting area
for the hall whereas other zones (zone 2 to zone 4) were the groups of the
lighting for the student area. After studying the environment I started finding
the possible problem that could in the exhibition. After studying the problem I
made three different cases for the resolution of the problem,
CE1.8 In case 1, I observed that
all the lights in the exhibition hall were still turned ON if hall was not
occupied too. In case 2 of the example, when small number of students appeared
in the class than all the lights in zone 1 to zone 4 were still turned ON.
Finally, in case 3, due to differences in the teaching modes exhibition was
having hard time whenever they switched their teaching mode because they need
different lighting environment.
CE1.9 For solving the problem faced by the
exhibition hall, I conclude to build an energy saving lighting system with
integrated sensors and controllers. I designed the smart lighting system which
can be controlled using the internet to adjust lighting brightness and schedules.
Additionally, also designed the lighting system including high efficiency
fixtures and automated controls that make adjustments based on conditions such
as occupancy or daylight availability. I built the MICS in different modules
and categories into two types: input module and light module.
CE1.10 I used motion detector, an
electronic control unit and a controllable switch/relay. The detector senses
and visualize the motion and determines the availability of occupants in the
space. I prepared a smart lamp monitoring to control the status of the street
lamps and forward monitored result to the control station. To study the work
flow of the smart lamp I prepared the simplified block diagram of the complete
smart lamp monitoring system. Different module used are resistor module,
transmission module, and microprocessor module inside the lamp. The lamp module
and control center communicate through wireless using Xbee.
CE1.11 Installation of LDR is done
on the top of the street lamp to check the day/night status. Similarly another
LDR is placed under the street lamp to monitor and check the lamp health
status. In order to process the data the results of the LDRs are sent to
microcontroller and then sent to the transmission module. Wireless Xbee is used
to transmit the data through wireless to the control center in the transmission
module.
CE1.12 After the detailed study, I
designed the prototype for the lecture hall where it was able to control both
lighting system and HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system. In
addition both system are dependent on one another i.e. they are integrated.
Four 15W incandescent lights are there in the surface of the illustrated
lecture class room where each light represented one zone of area in the lecture
hall. Three LED lights which represents the signal light of the computer,
projector and OPH and turn ON any lights of this would represent the signal of
the current usage of the respective equipment. Similarly, one RFID reader are
present in one of the lecture hall area.
CE1.13 One of the enclosure is
containing incandescent bulb where multi sensor is installed. The main function
of the incandescent bulb is to control the ambient lights inside the enclosure
by switching ON/OFF. The top of the enclosure was opened for the purpose for
the outer light source by lighting up inside the enclosure. I always followed
academic and professional honesty as well as integrity in publishing my own
original work.
CE1.14 I actively participated in
the documentation of the project too. Based on the previous analysis such as
literature review, preliminary findings from the experiment and scheduled of
work planned in Gantt chart I produced a mid- level project progress report.
Then I submit the report to the school faculty and attained the positive
feedback. To sum up, I prepared a Power Point presentation in English to
demonstrate my all work in thesis seminar to all of other academic staff and
students.
CE1.15 For executing the good
project completely there should be good coordination between the team members
and all sorts of the conflicts should be avoided. Every member should follow
the university ethics and academic and I also so the same in my thesis project.
D) Summary
CE1.16 Since the project requires
comprehensive demonstration of managerial, technical, and professional skills
in decision making, planning, executing and reporting so this project is very
useful and significant for my engineering course. I expertise myself on the
project management skills as well as in strengthening the research skills. I
learnt different techniques of the data collection its integration and
synthesis of the vital technical details from all resources to produce novel
design in the project. Finally it was the great opportunity for me to show the
inner knowledge of me and also improve the communication and coordination
skills on me.
